In a tragic incident on Christmas Day, two teenage boys lost their lives after venturing into Lake Victoria in Jinja District, eastern Uganda, according to eyewitnesses. The incident occurred at Masese landing site, and despite the efforts of onlookers, only one body was recovered.
Eyewitness Brian Mungdit recounted the events, stating that the boys had been swimming near the shores of the beach when one of them suddenly disappeared in the water. The second boy, upon realizing his friend was missing, bravely attempted to rescue him but tragically met the same fate.
Local divers had already retrieved one body from the lake by the time the police arrived at the scene. However, a search and rescue operation was still underway to locate the second victim. The unidentified body of the juvenile was transferred to Jinja Main Hospital for postmortem examination.
James Mubi, the spokesperson for the Kiira region police, provided additional details, mentioning that the two boys had gone swimming at Masese pier without adult supervision. Despite the efforts of the Jinja marine police, the search for the second body had thus far been unsuccessful. The crime scene was documented by the scene of crime officers, and the recovered body was taken to the mortuary at Jinja Main Hospital. In a tragic incident on Christmas Day, two teenage boys lost their lives after venturing into Lake Victoria in Jinja District, eastern Uganda, according to eyewitnesses.
